I have purchased a surface dial explicitly for DAW control with Elephant, and am enjoying using it. However, I can't see how to set it up so it behaves in the following way:

Elephant is loaded and you hover the mouse over a control in the DAW. The surface dial controls the parameter you have hovered over, and you move the dial slightly to check the control is in place. You now move the mouse away from that area of the screen. But the surface dial remains in control of the parameter you previously selected - you can undertake different operations with the mouse but the surface dial remains in control of the parameter you selected previously. You now click the surface dial once. This "unlock" the surface dial from control of the parameter you had selected before, and reverts to following the mouse. Hover over another control and turn the surface dial and it locks to that parameter, allowing the mouse to be used again until the surface dial itself is clicked and "unlocked" again.

Is what I have described above possible? It would allow the mouse to be used independently of the surface dial but still give the ability to move the parameter the dial is controlling as needed.

Thanks for any help

Malcolm

Hello Malcolm.
No not is possible is what elephant do, convert surface dial in a kind or sort of mouse handler for more convenient use of the knobs sliders and other widgets.

As a workaround or improvement of workflow, try enabling the mode "Touchpad/Trackball",  this mode disable the dial with just move the mouse.
This mode is for user use a mouse touch pad, but works also with normal mouse.
This not allow  to use the mouse and the dial at same time (only MIDI mode allow that), but allow to disable the dial action when move the mouse without click the dial, or the mouse.

Thanks for the reply. Now a silly question - can you have two mice pointers, connected to two different pieces of hardware. Elephant controls one pointer, but the other is independent and controlled by the OS?

By mistake never see this comment.
Windows 10 now support multi-point events, not 100% secure can handle multi-mouse, anyway that require the software also support and handle multi-point events. I wont see in the near future software vendors interested in support this.
About surface dial, windows only can handle one.
